Smoothies + Muffin = Tummy Full

Grape No-Sugar Smoothies

TIP
  • Liquid goes first or the blender won't go. My husband got me a Vitamixer 3 years ago as I broke 6 well-known blenders. The Vitamixer makes little green chunks of spinach go away. Imagine those little chunks on your teeth.

    • Look for the bare necessities,
      the simple bare necessities,
forget about your worry and your strife.
      I mean the bare necessities
      Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life.
    • Green and Spicy Smoothie

      ½ cup frozen kale
      ½ cup frozen spinach
½ of a large tomato or ½ cup of cherry tomatoes
      ⅛ cup frozen diced celery
Warning: Check horseradish label for sugar
      ¼ tsp prepared horseradish
      1 pinch cayenne pepper
      1 pinch black pepper
      ½ lemon
      ½ cup water
      Makes one 12-ounce serving.
    • Blueberries & Kale Smoothie
      1 cup frozen blueberries
      1 cup baby kale
      1 cup plain yogurt
      1 banana
      2 tablespoons old fashioned oats
      1 tablespoon chia seeds
    • Can you freeze smoothies? No. I froze a big batch in big muffin tins. Then I took them out of the muffin tins and put them in a freezer bag. The idea is to take them out as needed. They thaw out in twenty minutes, but the texture is destroyed, and you get chunks of ice and liquid.
    • I love mango, but not Kale Smoothie
      1/4 cup orange juice
      1/4 cup milk
      1 old banana
      Handful of kale
      1 cup frozen mango chunks
      1/2 avocado

    Approaching Dessert - Still Healthy

  • The less liquid you put in, the more it approaches ice cream consistency. The blender requires liquid in the bottom, but this could be why I've broken all blenders except the VitaMixer.
  • Protecting Strawberries from Squirrels
  • Strawberry
    2 cups frozen strawberries
    1 fresh banana, peeled
    1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup Ice (I omit in winter.)
You can add a tab of Stevia, if needed to sweeten
A sprig of mint from the garden is a joyful addition. It reminds me of that Christmas Peppermint Ice Cream.

  • Blueberry Smoothie
    1 1/2 cups apple juice
OR dairy milk, or almond milk
    1 banana
    1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
    4 tbls Plain Greek yogurt
    (1 tsp Stevia if needed)
Makes 2 cups. Ice Cream consistency.

  • TIP
  • To clean blender: fill half way with hot water and a dab of dish soap and blend on high.
  • Raspberries, blackberries and strawberries (to a lesser extent) have little seeds according to my dental hygentist. I actually got a cavity the first checkup after quitting sugar despite Sonicare and flossing. So blend, blend, blend. Straining them is not something I want to do on account of texture.

Storebought pure vanilla extract is usually about (75 proof) and alcohol doesn't get cooked out. Glycerine based vanilla is OK as glycerol is an alcohol - it is strictly a chemical term for any organic compound featuring the functional group -OH. (But, remember I'm not a doctor.) A vanilla bean is more expensive and more work, but an explosion of flavor. Vanilla bean paste consists of vanilla bean pod, a sugar-water syrup, and some sort of thickener.
